If you haven't been living under a rock, you've probably herd of TikTok. In short, the app is a place where you can create short 1 minute videos, kinda like Vine. The app's core audience is teens looking to express their creativity.
The most popular videos on the app are, for the most part, dance videos. Which has thus innovated the way artists promoting their music, because the recent charts have directly been correlated to the popular trends on the app.
One of the newest artists to use this new technique is Toronto's finest, Aubrey Graham aka Drake.
That's right, arguably the world's biggest artist has released a song called 'Toosie Slide' with lyrics directing the listener to dance along with the song.
"It go right foot up, left foot, slide
Left foot up, right foot, slide
Basically, I'm sayin' either way, we 'bout to slide, ayy
Can't let this one slide, ayy"
- Drake - Toosie Slide (https://genius.com/Drake-toosie-slide-lyrics)Realistically, this is genius from Drake, because in a sense he has found a way to reverse engineer his way to a chart topping single.
The Toronto born rapper, has been on top of the rap game for over a decade and things like this are the reason why. He has always found a way to get with the times, whether it be with the 'In My Feelings' Challenge, a song that was never supposed to be a hit but when on guy created a trend Drake made sure to hop on that success, or this instance where Drake saw 'The Box' by Roddy Ricch chart for multiple weeks just because of it's success on TikTok, Drake has always found a way to be on top. That to me is legacy defining stuff.
In any entertainment industry, you always have to innovate and reinvent in order to stay on top, and Drake has done that, time and time again.
